In and around Hawes, let us us help you find fabulous local walking routes (you know the type that end up at an old world pub full of character with a real fire), our magnificent five local waterfalls (we've another 20 within an hours drive), Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre (cheesy afternoon tea Gromit?), The Dales Countryside Museum, and the local excursion to see a red squirrel reserve.  We guide you to the best cafe's, ice cream parlours, old world sweet shop, and arguably the best fish and chip shop in the country.

A speciality for us is advising you on the multitude of locations featuring in both the 1980's and the current series of 'All Creatures Great & Small'. We've  information on the pubs, the farms, the water-splash from the 1980's opening sequence, the churches, the original 1980's Surgery and the current series surgery, and the squares where they are or were all filmed. 

It's only a two mile walk to the waterfall where Kevin Costner bathed nude in Robin Hood, or a 20 minute drive to the series of waterfalls where he fought Little John. 

Of course The Pennine Way passes through Hawes (within 20m of our cottage), but that's just one of the walking options available to you! The Herriott's Way also starts and finishes in Hawes, and we're just 20 minutes drive from Ribblehead and The Yorkshire Three Peaks loop. We commend walks to you in Upper Wharfdale and Swaledale (respectively the valleys running north and south of Hawes / upper Wensleydale) so you see the varying character of differing dales.

Cyclists please bring your bike(s) (we have a secure bike annex) and we can help you find both MTB trails, and also some amazing road cycling including the Cote Du Buttertubs climb out of Hawes which featured in the 2014 Tour De France. Wild swimmers and runners, we have recommendations for you too.

For families we have recommendations of five castles / abbeys to visit, cave systems, Forbidden Corner (the most quirky family attraction), open air swimming pools, museums, and family cycling. You may want to visit Hawes Auction Market (most Tuesdays but also some Fridays) to see the sheep sales, or watch the working sheepdog demonstration on Wednesday's (the shepherd has been putting this on for 40 years and its a wonderful ode to the dales).

And if you're musical or just a fan of music let us guide you to the 'trinity' of the three famous local pubs (respectively 2, 9, and 15 miles away) that put on acoustic music nights and invite you to join in (held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the year). These are special evenings, where you feel you've found somewhere special to relax and breathe.
